|The main road way
throught the area is the A82. It starts near St Georges Cross in
Glasgow and winds its way North until it reaches Inverness. It heads
off in a northwesterly direction through to the outskirts of Glasgow
and passes the Erkine Bridge on its way to Dumbarton. Here it is dual
carriageway but it becomes a single carriageway at Stoneymullin
roundabout near Balloch. From here it skirts the side of Loch Lomond on
good quality surface until it reaches Tarbet at which point it becomes
a road suitable for the middle ages and great care is advised until you
get to Inverarnan where the improved road returns. It continues up Glen
Falloch to Crianlarich where it joins the A85 from Perth. It
shots up Strath Fillan to Tyndrum then splits from the A85 again
to continue to Bridge of Orchy all eventually Inverness.
The A85 is the other major road and goes from Perth West to Oban. It comes to Crianlarich on its journey past Lochearnhead and over Glen Ogle. At Crianlarich it joins the A82 and 'follows' it to Tyndrum where they split again and it heads off to Dalmally and eventually Tanuilt and Oban.
The last metalled road in the area is the B8074 which joins the A82 north of Tyndrum and the A85 East of Dalmally. It runs through Glen Orchy is is a single track road with passing places. This is a beautiful road and the scenery is really black and white 'The 39 Steps' stuff if you know what I mean.
There are also a number of old drove roads and General Wade has been active here too.
